ATHENS, GA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) –Stegeman Coliseum at the University of Georgia is set to receive upgrades as part of a planned $12 million dollar renovation.
Among the upgrades planned for the 45-year-old, 10,500-seat Coliseum are a new glass facade and a 12,000 square foot expansion of the concourse and concession areas of the venue, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The 'seating bowl' of the arena has already undergone recent refurbishment and will be left unchanged by this latest round of upgrades.
"What we wanted to do first and foremost" UGA athletics director Damon Evans told the AJC, "is upgrade our fan amenities [by improving] our restrooms and concessions areas. The other thing is the aesthetic factor. The glass wall will enhance the overall look."
The University of Georgia had considered building an entirely new arena but the estimated cost of more than $100 million put the project out of reach at the current time. Renovations to the Stegeman are expected to be completed by fall of 2010. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
