UK Competition Commission To Examine LN/Ticketmaster Deal

LONDON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Competition Commission has begun an inquiry into the proposed merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster to evaluate its impact on competition in the UK market.

The Competition Commission is an independent public body, tasked with carrying out investigations into mergers, markets and regulated industries. Empowered by the 2002 Enterprise Act, the Commission has formed a panel consisting of Christopher Clarke (Chairman), John Longworth, Jeremy Peat and Richard Taylor which has a 24-week period to collect information and publish its report.

If the Commission determines that the merger will result in a 'substantial loss of competition (SLC)' they will make suggestions on what they feel to be appropriate remedies.

The findings of the Commission and an will form the basis for a series of hearings on the merger and they have issued a public invitation for all interested parties to submit evidence on the matter. The Commission is expected to deliver their final report by November 24th, 2009. For more information, check them online at competition-commission.org – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
