CANNES, France (CelebrityAccess) — The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity that Universal Music Group Chairman & CEO Sir Lucian Grainge will be honored at the annual Festival as the 2017 Media Person of the Year.
The award will be presented to Grainge at a ceremony on Wednesday, 21 June 2017, during the Festival. The Media Person of the Year award recognizes innovators and creators who have had a substantial impact on the future of media. Grainge is the first music executive to be recognized since the award was launched in 1999.
Grainge is widely credited with helping to lay the groundwork for the resurgence of the recorded music industry after more than a decade of decline. UMG, led by Grainge, made substantial investments in new technology. As well, Grainge oversaw key acquisitions for the label group such as the recorded music assets of EMI, and the re-launch of Capitol Records.
Grainge also serves on the boards of Lionsgate Entertainment Corp., and Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. – Staff Writers
