LONDON (CelebrityAccess) – Sports Direct founder Mike Ashley has reportedly thrown his hat in the ring to purchase HMV, following the famed music chain’s collapse last month.

This is the second time in six years that the retailer has fallen into administration.

Ashley, who owns more than 60% of Sports Direct, which is now the UK’s largest sportswear retailer, with more than 400 stores including Lillywhites in London’s Piccadilly, also owns retailers House of Fraser department, Evans Cycles, as well as stakes in companies such as French Connection, Debenhams, and Game Digital.

According to Sky News, who first reported Ashley’s interest in purchasing HMV, there is a chance the retail tycoon may opt to merge the music retailer with the aforementioned gaming chain if successful.

While bids for the store are now closed, KPMG, the insolvency and accountancy firm, which has been acting as HMV’s joint administrator since the new year, has not released the names of any bidders.

There is reportedly no deadline for a decision.
