LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — The Brixton Academy re-opens its doors on Friday for the first time since an incident at a concert in December 2022 left two people dead and multiple injured.
The incident, which took place outside of a concert by Afro-pop singer Asake, saw two people fatally injured in a crowd surge when a large number of people tried to enter the venue.
The victims included Gaby Hutchinson, 23, and Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, who were both killed. Another woman was hospitalized with serious injuries related to the crowd crush.
Following the incident, Lambeth’s Council suspended the Brixton O2 Academy’s license while a review of the venue’s security policies was conducted.
The venue officially opens its doors again on Friday with a performance by Nirvana UK, a tribute to the legendary grunge band Nirvana, & The Smyths, a tribute to The Smiths.
