Concert Promoter John Yates Dies At 52


(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Independent Washington-area concert promoter John Yates III died March 14th at the age of 52. He has been battling Reiter’s syndrome, a rare form of arthritis, and pneumonia.

Yates had pursued a career in concert promotion after attending Woodstock in 1969, according to the Washington Post.

Over the years, he had done promotional work for Bobby McFerrin, Boy George, Patti LaBelle, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Take 6, Chick Corea, Paula Poundstone and Sandra Bernhard.

He was also instrumental in the reopening of Washington’s Warner Theater in 1976, and spent two years as the theater’s house manager. He then started his own company, John Yates Productions. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
