Major Upgrades Planned For University Of Kansas' Memorial Stadium

LAWRENCE, KS (CelebrityAccess) — The University of Kansas Athletics Department is planning to move forward with a $300 million refurb of the school's Memorial Stadium.

According to the Kansas City Star, news of the planned upgrade was announced during a “Football in June” event when athletic director Sheahon Zenger revealed the school's intentions for teh stadium. Zenger did not elaborate on the details of the plans, but noted that planned upgrades include a new indoor practice area.

Zenger added that more details would be forthcoming after the official plans were released in the coming months.

The venerable stadium, which first opened in 1921, has been the focus of upgrade talks for more than a decade. The university's Board of Regents approved a $34 million addition of luxury seating on the east side of the stadium in 2009, but construction has yet to begin on the upgrade. – Staff Writers
