SiriusXM Eyes Streaming Market

NEW YORK (Hypebot) – Sirius XM is is eyeing expansion of its fledgling online streaming service as a way to fuel growth, according to a major backer of the satellite broadcast service. “We are watching what happens in streaming,” Liberty Media chief Greg Maffei told the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference last week. “Taking Sirius unique content beyond the car in the home and in the office, it’s an opportunity we’ve not yet attacked.”

Sirius XM subscribers can currently choose a stand-alone net radio package for $14.99 a month. Add in-car listening and the total costs is $18.99.

With an impressive array of original programs, if the company drop the net only price to $10 or less per month, Sirius XM could become a serious competitor to Pandora and other online streamers. Lower net pricing could also serve as a gateway to new subscribers who once addicted to certain program will pay to add service in the car.
