BANGKOK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — They may look like Thailand's answer to Girls Aloud, but this girl band is really a boy band.
The five young Thai transsexuals Bobo, Taya, Gina, Amy and Nok – commonly referred to as ladyboys – were brought together by Sony BMG to create a girl group with a twist.
They are known as Hot, Cool, Posh, Naughty and Sweet and together they make up the band, Venus Flytrap.
Stylish and articulate, they want to sweep aside the common image of ladyboys as cabaret queens or tourist curiosities and join the mainstream of international pop.
They have quite a way to go as the girls still flog the nightclub circuit in Bangkok, but the band is hoping a newly-released album, "Visa for Love" and a risqué video will propel them to stardom.
Nok, 24, branded as Posh said: "The outstanding selling points of us are our special looks as special women or ladyboys."
The band hope to be an inspiration for young transsexuals but they also want their music to be all inclusive. It mixes European pop, electronic house and funk with Thai lyrics.
