Torrential Rain Causes Festival Tent Collapse

TOOWOOMBA, Queensland (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Thousands of festival-goers attending a Australian Christian music fest were evacuated without injury after a festival tent split under the weight of water from a torrential downpour.

The Department of Community said more than 15,000 were in attendance at Easterfest 2011 and thousands were in the main tent when the split occurred. The tent subsequently partially collapsed under the weight of the water.

According to local news reports, Isaac Moody, CEO of the festival's production company said that they were successful in relocating much of the remaining event to the city center.

"The tents are hired in, they're not our tents. And we have engineering certificates signed off with the full building approval and they will be investigating that I'm sure, and looking into what wrong," Moody told ABC News.

Camping at the event was also curtailed and authorities removed campers to 3 nearby evacuation centers.

Easterfest is a three-day Christian music fest that features camping and more than 200 artists. Headliners at this year's event included Switchfoot, Naturally 7, Petra, Article One and PC3.
