(CelebrityAccess) — Feminist punk/riot grrl pioneers Bikini Kill announced plans to reunite for a short series of concerts in New York and Los Angeles this summer.
The concerts will feature the band’s original line-up with Kathleen Hanna on vocals, Tobi Vail on drums, and Kathi Wilcox on bass — along with guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle.
The performances will be the iconic band’s first full gigs since they parted company in 1997 after performing together for less than seven years. The three performed a single ong together in at the Kitchen in New York City, to mark the release of the band biography of the Raincoats in 2017.
During their short, but notable career, Bikini Kill released just two EP’s, two LP’s and three singles and a demo tape, including the seminal riot grrl anthem “Rebel Girl” which features backing guitar work from Joan Jett, who also produced for the group. Bikini Kill also toured the US several times, and toured in Europe, Australia and Japan as well.
After breaking up, Bikini Kill’s singles were compiled as a CD compilation that was re-issued in 2018 on the band’s Bikini Kill Records label.
At present, they are scheduled for just a handful of shows for 2019.
