NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Ben Sprecher, a prolific Broadway producer is facing federal child pornography charges following an early morning raid at his New York home on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Sprecher was arrested and charged with using peer-to-peer file-sharing networks to receive and then distribute more than 100 images alleged to show the sexual exploitation of minors. The alleged child pornography included depictions of prepubescent children engaged in sexual activity with adults, the US Attorney’s office said.

Sprecher, who is 65, was charged with one count of distribution and receipt of child pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and one count of possession of child pornography, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Sprecher is a veteran producer whose credits include, The Odd Couple (2005), A Moon for the Misbegotten (2007), American Buffalo (2008), and Brighton Beach Memoirs (2009).

Sprecher also credits himself as a theatre owner-operator and the executive producer of the national tour of “Little House on the Prairie.”

Sprecher is perhaps best known for his involvement with “Rebecca,” a big-budget musical which was slated to open in 2012 but fell apart amid financial fraud when Sprecher and other investors discovered that the show’s financial backer was fictitious.

Sprecher was ultimately cleared of any involvement in the fraud, but Mark Hotton, a stockbroker, eventually pleaded guilty in the case.
