LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – Vampire Weekend (Ezra Koenig, Chris Baio and Chris Tomson) has unveiled a double treat for fans eagerly awaiting their upcoming album, Only God Was Above Us, set to release on April 5 via Columbia Records. The band has released two advanced tracks, “Capricorn” and “Gen-X Cops.” The album, marking their return after half a decade, showcases diverse facets of their musical style.
“Capricorn,” written by Koenig and produced by Ariel Rechtstaid and Koenig, begins with subtle melodies before escalating into a powerful chorus with distorted guitars and dynamic drum fills. On the other hand, “Gen-X Cops,” co-written by Koenig and Tomson, features a frantic guitar figure and a spirited beat, leading to an anthemic refrain.
Both tracks are accompanied by visuals of New York in 1988, featuring footage by album art photographer Steven Siegel. The “Capricorn” video, directed by Nick Harwood, takes viewers on a visual journey through late ’80s New York City, merging the gritty yet captivating essence of the era with modern-day Vampire Weekend. “Gen-X Cops,” directed by Drew Pearce, uses authentic film stocks from 1988 and meticulously recreates the light patterns of 1980s subway tunnels, providing an immersive experience.
Only God Was Above Us is available for pre-order in various formats, including CD, standard black vinyl, and limited edition clear vinyl. The album cover will also have an exclusive alternate version available at independent retailers.
Additionally, the trio has announced a comprehensive North American headline tour of 39 dates produced by Live Nation to support the album. The tour includes festival headlines, sold-out shows, and unique two-show engagements in select locations. The band handpicked the supporting acts for the tour, featuring special guests with local significance for each region.
Citi is the official card providing members presale access starting on February 20. General presales begin on February 21, and the public on-sale starts on February 23. The tour starts with a sold-out show in Austin and spans various cities, culminating in two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
