It was just before Christmas and Clear Channel Entertainment continued to clean
house as part of its plan to streamline operations and cut costs. The affected this
time include its No. 2 executive, LA-based COO Steve Smith and New York-based PR
staff, including vice president Howard Shacter and Bennett Kleinberg. Smith,
however, will remain involved with CCE as a consultant, a company spokesperson
confirmed.
A CCE spokesperson said the lay-offs were part of the company's plan to
consolidate operations.
Last spring CCE music division co-chairs Irv Zuckerman and Rodney Eckerman were fired and replaced with Don Law and Dave Lucas.
