LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — American Idol has posted its lowest ratings in more than five years as the show draws close to the finale for the current season Reuters has reported
Now that's not to say the show is struggling and its still far and away the most highly-rated show in its timeslot with an 8.2 rating and a 21 share (23.3 million viewers) amongst the key 18-49 demographic so beloved by advertisers.
The show has entered into what many in the industry consider to be the horse latitudes for a hit show – a period of diminishing returns in which producers must balance changing enough to keep the show fresh while not changing it sufficiently to alienate longtime viewers.
Most troubling for the show is the fact that in the 18-34 females demographic, its shed nearly 1/5th of its viewership, the Los Angeles Times reported. Young adults and children are often considered the canary in the coalmine for ratings trends. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
