Jazz Guitarist, Club Owner Feted with Honorary Doctorate Of Letters

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — On June 3, jazz aficionado, guitarist and night club owner Jeff Healey was
awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters (D. Litt) by
McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Nominated by
a neighbor who was impressed with Healey's
achievements in music and for work with various charities
in his community, McMaster chose Healey to receive one of
two honorary Doctorate of Letters degrees handed out
alongside one given out to baseball player Ferguson "Fergie" Jenkins, Jr.

Performing live at the ceremony with his jazz trio, Healey
was handed his doctorate, hood and mortar board cap by
Dr. P. George, president of McMaster University. "I'm
thrilled to be recognized by McMaster for my contributions
to the arts," said Healey. "It's good to be doctor!" he quipped. — Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
