LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Rap star Kendrick Lamar took top honors at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, winning six of the eight awards he had been nominated for.
Lamar took the statues for best hip-hop video, direction, cinematography, art direction and visual effects, for the video for his hit "Humble" off of his most recent album "Damn."
Ed Sheeran was named as artist of the year, besting competition from Lorde, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Bruno Mars.
Ellen DeGeneris was on hand to present singer Pink with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which is intended to recognize musical artists for their accomplishments in music and film.
Notable performances on the night included by Miley Cyrus and Ed Sheeran, and a pyrotechnic pair of songs from Kendrick Lamar while Taylor Swift took the opporunity to debut her the video for her latest single, "Look What You Made Me Do."
Hosted by Katy Perry, the awards took place at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
