CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The newly-reformed Smashing Pumpkins are reportedly getting ready to release their sixth studio album, “Zeitgeist,” and have announced two sets of residency gigs, including nine consecutive shows at the Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina, and eight shows at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco.
The shows are designed to be intimate, showcasing spur-of-the-moment ideas and work-in-process songs, along with Pumpkins classics and tunes from the new album. Fans have been invited to capture the innovative gigs with audio and video recorders.
The band’s current line-up includes frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin as the only original members of the group. The Chicago Tribune has reported that bassist Ginger Reyes, formerly of the Halo Friendlies, will be playing on the tour, and MTV News reports that guitarist Jeff Schroeder, of Lassie Foundation, will be taking James Iha’s former duties.
On “Zeitgeist,” Chamberlin and Corgan were joined by Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date on various tracks.
The band will be embarking on a full summer tour, launching May 22nd in Paris, France, at the historic Grand Rex. It will be the band’s first live performance since December 2, 2000.
