SXSW Pays Tribute To Viola Beach

AUSTIN, TX (VIP NEWS) — British band Viola Beach have been remembered at SXSW festival in Texas.

The group, who died last month, were meant to be playing as part of the line-up for the BBC Introducing showcase in the city of Austin.

The four members of the group, plus their manager, were killed when their car fell from a bridge in Stockholm.

At the venue they were due to play, Latitude 30, a video montage of the band was broadcast.

It featured clips of the group being interviewed and a recording of one of their BBC sessions.

BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Steve Lamacq introduced the tribute to a crowd of people.

He said: "Their music was effervescent and uplifting. It was buoyant and catchy.

"Most of all it was the kind of music that was capturing the imagination of a lot of people who had seen them.

"All the tipsters around the country and the major magazines, the DJs who played them like me and Radio 1`s Huw Stephens – everyone genuinely believed that this was a band for whom success was a certainty."

A tribute concert to Kris Leonard, River Reeves and Jack Dakin, all 20, Tomas Lowe, 27, and their manager Craig Tarry, 33, will be held in April.

The Kooks and The Coral are among the artists playing the event in their hometown of Warrington.
