(CelebrityAccess) — Colombian singer Shakira appeared in a Spanish court on Thursday to testify in court proceedings over allegations that she failed to pay €14.5m in taxes.
According to local media sources, Shakira said he was current on her tax obligations in Spain and had provided her full cooperation to the investigation.
Prosecutors argued that She failed to properly pay taxes by claiming to live in the Bahamas when she was actually residing in Spain. She lived in the Bahamas until 2015 when she changed her place of residence to Spain to live with her partner, the professional football player Gerard Piqué, and their two sons.
In a statement released on Thursday, a spokesperson for Shakira said the singer had appeared in court to “help clarify the facts over her tax situation in Spain.”
“As soon as she learned how much she owed the Spanish tax authorities – and before a complaint was filed – Shakira paid the full amount, as well as providing the tax office with exhaustive information. For this reason, there is currently no debt whatsoever,” the statement added.
