BANGOR, ME (CelebrityAccess) — A widely shared video of Marilyn Manson purportedly being handcuffed by police went viral, but in the end, it turned out to be a bit of a put-on.
Shortly after his performance at the Impact Music Festival in Bangor on Sunday, Manson posted a short video of himself being placed in cuffs. The video caught the attention of his fans on Instagram, who viewed it hundreds of thousands of times since it was posted.
In a subsequent post on their Facebook page, Bangor police lt. Tim Cotton·revealed that the incident had been arranged by Manson himself with a police officer posted backstage.
It’s good to know that the police in Bangor have a sense of humor. Manson is currently on the road with Rob Zombie for their Twins of Evil tour.
The Facebook post:
“In the interest of saving us a whole lot of call-backs, Marilyn Manson was merely handcuffed and released immediately thereafter.
Officer Curtis Grenier, typically listening to only Enya, and a little bit of Oasis, was posted backstage during the Impact Music Festival. He did not recognize Mr. Manson without his stage makeup- our apologies.
Later, when approaching Rob Zombie, Officer Grenier was overheard saying, “I have never seen him in the Walking Dead, so I don’t know what the big deal is.”
Grenier has been spoken to and relieved of back-stage concert related duties for the foreseeable future. The Chief has determined that Grenier can work backstage during Lord of the Dance or anything related to Disney.
Keep your hands to yourself, leave other people’s things alone, and be kind to one another.
We will be here.
