LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — The Transformers spin-off Bumblebee finally managed to oust Auquaman from its position at the top of the worldwide box office, earning $95.5M in the process over the weekend, according to estimates compiled by comScore.

Bumblebee, a Paramount movie, features the Transformers character of the same name and is the sixth entry into the toy-based film franchise. While the movie has been in theaters for several weeks, it was propelled by a strong debut in China this week, where it opened at #1.

Directed by Travis Knight who is making his first foray into live action after helming the animated hit Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena, along with Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, and Pamela Adlon. Dylan O’Brien, Angela Bassett, Justin Theroux, and Peter Cullen are also featured in the film in voice roles.

For Aquaman enthusiasts, the film is still chugging along, earning $86.9M worldwide over the weekend, including $30.7M from North American theaters where it still reigns supreme.

The weekend grosses helped to propel Aquaman past the $900 million mark, well within striking distance of the $1bn milestone.
