Fate Of The Furious Opens To $500m Debut


LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — The Fate of the Furious, Universal's latest entry in the seemingly endless franchise of car-themed action sequels debuted to record box office revenue, earning an estimated $532.5M worldwide, according to figures compiled by comScore.

Featuring the star power of Vin Diesel, the sequel vaulted to a $100.2 million domestic opening and managed to wrest the crown for the biggest worldwide debut ever from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jurassic World.

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox's Boss Baby and Disney's Beaty & The Beast continued to march along in second and third place, adding $52.3m and $35.6m to their cumulative revenue over the weekend. The weekend's take helped to push Beauty over the $1bn mark, while the animated Boss Baby has grossed a cumulative total of $287m.
