SAN FRANCISCO (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Ford challenged software developers to use their Sync API to link a vehicle's stereo controls and voice commands to the Spotify Music Service as a part of Ford's Applink contest. An API is the layer of computer programming that allows software to control computer hardware.
According to Endgadget, the developers answered the challenge by modifying Spotify smartphone app to work with a Ford car stereo, including displaying information about the track currently being played.
Ford made it clear after the contest was concluded that this was not intended as a specific plan for integrating Spotfiy into Ford autos, but just a demonstration of their API's capabilities.
Spotify has become one of the leading online music services with a strong following overseas. They launched in the U.S. last July.
