Cirque du Soleil Founder's Son Killed In Stage Accident

SAN FRANCISCO (CelebrityAccess) — A stage technician, who was the son of one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil, was killed in an on-stage accident.

According to the Associated Press, officials confirmed that 42-year-old Olivier Rochette, of Quebec, died Tuesday night in San Francisco after he was hit in the head with an ariel lift.

A statement released by the circus said that his immediate family, including his father Gilles Ste-Croix, one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil, has been informed of the accident.

A police spokesperson told the Associated Press that officers with San Francisco Police Department Traffic Collision Investigation Unit and investigators with the state’s workplace safety regulator, Cal/OSHA, are investigating the incident.
