Live Nation Exec May Jump To AEG

LOS ANGELES (VIP NEWS) — According to Billboard, Brian Murphy, once chairman of Southern California music at Live Nation and carrying the "senior consultant" title at that company since 2008, will exit Live Nation and move to rival promoter AEG Live as president of the promoter's West Coast regional office.

Murphy has been a fixture on the L.A. concert promotion scene for more than 30 years; he is the founder of Avalon Attractions, a major L.A. independent promoter acquired by LN's previous incarnation SFX in 1998 as part of the latter's promoter rollup.

Rick Mueller remains as president of of Live Nation California, a post he claimed in 2008 when he was tapped to oversee all of the company's California operations after previously serving as president of Live Nation San Francisco. At that point, Brian Murphy was named senior consultant for Live Nation in L.A.

Murphy's relationships with agents and managers could be seen as a critical competitive factor in L.A., particularly at the arena level, where AEG Live and Live Nation compete fiercely for shows.
