NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — New York's historic Coney Island will be the home of a new amphitheater, which is currently under development by by real estate investor and developer iStar, in partnership with Coney Island USA.
According to the Brooklyn Eagle, 5,000-seat, covered, open-air venue will be leased and booked by Live Nation and will host a mix of concerts, family shows, sports, comedy and multicultural events, and host the free Seaside Summer Concert Series.
The venue will anchor the state-of-the-art Seaside Park and Community Arts Center developed by iStar, in partnership with Coney Island USA and is currently under construction in the neighborhood's historic Childs Building.
The amphitheater will feature 50 foot tall doors that can be opened for outdoor shows, or shut to allow the venue to operate during the cold season. The venue is expected to have its grand opening in July, 2016.
Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment will sell naming rights and sponsorships for the venue and support the branding and programming of the beachfront complex.
“Our vision for Coney Island is a neighborhood that preserves the past while building for the future, and that balances a vibrant amusement district with a growing residential community,” said NYCEDC President Maria Torres-Springer. “The Amphitheater is a key component of our investment in the neighborhood, and will soon be home to both world class concerts and community events.” – Staff Writers
