SCARBOROUGH, UK (CelebrityAccess) — Scarborough Open Air Theatre is reporting record attendance ahead of the kickoff for the summer season in its third year since being taken over by the Live Nation-owned promoter Cuffe And Taylor.

According to the York Press, more than 82,000 people have already purchased tickets for shows at the theatre this summer, up from 75,000 in the previous year and the third straight year of improvement for the shed.

The news of the theatre’s summer sales comes just days before Lionel Richie is set to open the amphitheater’s season with a sold-out performance on June 19th.

Also confirmed for this summer are The Script, Gary Barlow, Nile Rodgers and Chic, Steps, Alfie Boe, Emeli Sandé, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Stereophonics, Pete Tong, Il Divo, James Arthur, Bastille, Texas, Britney Spears and James.

“Excitement is really building ahead of our first show on Tuesday with the great Lionel Richie, and we are delighted to have broken the venue’s attendance record for the third successive year,” said Peter Taylor, director of Cuffe and Taylor said in a press statement. “To have out-sold last year’s attendance figure of 75,000 before the first show has taken place proves what an incredible line-up Scarborough OAT has this year.”

“We knew what a special venue this was when we took over programming events here in 2016 and we are delighted to be bringing such a stunning line-up of world-renowned artists to the beautiful Yorkshire coast,” Taylor added. “The shows are not only brilliant for music fans but for the local tourism economy with visitors coming here from across the UK and around the world to see a sensational series of shows.”

Live Nation extended their programming for the theater with the Scarborough Borough Council for ten years in 2017, extending the agreement through 2028.
