MELBOURNE, Victoria (CelebrityAccess) — An up-and-coming Australian comic was sexually assaulted and murdered on her way home after a performance.

According to Australian newspaper The Age, 22-year-old Eurydice Dixon was in high spirits after a successful set at the Highlander Bar and was just yards from her home when the attack occurred.

“She was on top of the world because her gig went so well,” Tony Magnuson, a friend who was one of the last people to see the young comic alive told The Age. “At 12am I got a message that said ‘I’m almost home safe, HBU [how about you]’.

However, she never made it home. Her body was found on a soccer field several hours later, and after investigators released closed-circuit television footage of her alleged assailant, a man turned himself in.

On the following day, 19-year-old Jaymes Todd was charged with one count each of rape and murder. He is due to face court again on October 3.

Dixon first appeared on stage the ‘Yes Or Women’ open mic comedy night at Studio 59 in 2016, and soon made a name for herself as a regular on the Melbourne comedy circuit.

“I couldn’t get my head around how she could stand on stage even when the crowd didn’t get her humour. It didn’t shake her, she could stand tall against that,” her friend and colleague Kieran Butler Mr. Butler told The Age. “You just don’t get sensibility like that in someone so young because at 22 years old most don’t have enough to say, but she did.”
