ESPN Cuts Ties With Curt Schilling Following Transphobic Tweet

STAMFORD, CT (CelebrityAccess) — Former Boston Red Sox pitcher turned ESPN commentator Curt Schilling was let go from the sports network on Wednesday after tweeting a picture that many deemed transphobic amid a continuing national debate about trans rights.

“Let him in! To the restroom with your daughter or else you’re a narrow minded, judgmental, unloving, racist bigot who needs to die!!!”” the tweet, which accompanied a picture of a man apparently wearing a sexualized version of women’s clothing said.

For Schilling, an outspoken conservative who was known to call into right wing talk radio programs during his time as a pro athlete, the controversy he courted with his latest tweet was nothing new. However, for his employer ESPN, it proved to be the final straw.

“ESPN is an inclusive company,” the network said in a statement emailed to The Washington Post. “Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.” – Staff Writers
