SOUTH BEND, IN (CelebrityAccess) – A 21-year-old Notre Dame senior died one day before his graduation after he fell from the roof of the school's basketball arena.
According to Fox News, William Meckling, of Centennial, Colo., slipped and fell from the wet roof of the Joyce Center after he and a group of students had gained access to the roof.
Two of the students reported the incident to a security guard who then located Meckling and called for am ambulance at 3:45 a.m. Attempts to revive Meckling were unsuccessful.
Meckling was set to graduate the next day with a degree in mechanical engineering.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Billy’s family and friends after this terrible tragedy,” Notre Dame president the Rev. John Jenkins said “It is a profound sadness for all of us, on this graduation weekend, to lose someone so young and brimming with promise.”
