PHILADELPHIA (CelebrityAccess) — A federal judge in Pennsylvania agreed with embattled comedian Bill Cosby and his attorneys and granted a motion to dismiss a defamation lawsuit that had been brought against him, according to court records.
The suit, brought by Renita Hill, one of the numerous women who have accused Cosby of sexual assault, alleged that Cosby and his lawyer defamed Hill when he suggested on three occasions that her accusations should be "fact checked."
Judge Arthur J. Schwab dismissed the case against Cosby, ruling that based on Cosby's statements there was no grounds for a defamation case as Cosby's assertions were pure opinion.
Hill's lawyer told CNN that they plan to appeal the decision.
"We are disappointed, but remain committed to seeking justice in this matter. We strongly disagree with the judge's reasoning that Cosby's statements are constitutionally protected opinions," George Kontos, Renita Hill's lawyer, told CNN. – Staff Writers
