Police Arrest 10 At Lilac Festival Following Series Of Fights

ROCHESTER, NY (CelebrityAccess) — Following a series of fights, more than 10 people, including seven juveniles were arrested at the 2016 Lilac Festival.

The majority of the arrests were of unsupervised juveniles being charged with disorderly conduct for fighting. An individual was provided with an involuntary transport to mental health facility pursuant to mental hygiene law and one man, 5-year-old man, Calvin Jackson, was arrested for exposure of a person, according to local news outlet WHAM.

According to YNN Rochester, Rochester police spokesman said that while the event was well staffed, the arrests this year were atypical.

"There were a lot of unsupervised youth at the festival yesterday that resulted in a lot of problems," Lt. John Prewasnicak, of the Rochester Police Department Special Events Unit, told 13 WHAM.

Lilac Festival, now in its 118th year, runs through May 15 at Highland Park in Rochester. The free, annual 10-day event attracts 500,000 visitors for concerts, gardens, special events, exhibits and a parade at the 155-acre park.
