Virgin Mobile Fest Goes Free

COLUMBIA, MD (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The 2009 Virgin Mobile Festival has been re-named Virgin Mobile FreeFest after organizers decided to give 35,000 tickets to the Aug. 30 event away for free.

Ticketmaster has agreed to waive convenience fees for concert-goers who pick their tickets up at the Merriweather, or Washington D.C.'s 9:30 club, or for a charge, Ticketmaster will deliver the tix.

While the event is free, organizers are urging attendees to kick in $5 to help support homeless shelters by "FREEFEST" to 20222.

Tickets to the event go on-sale on to the general public on June 27 but previous Virgin Mobile Fest attendees and Virgin Mobile customers will have a shot at picking up tickets via email from June 25-27.

In years past, the event was staged in Baltimore at the Pimlico Racetrack, but ongoing financial woes at the facility forced the event's promoter Seth Hurwitz IMP productions, to find a more convivial home at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

The event has been reduced in scale from previous year's endeavors, shedding a day and some of the breadth in the lineup. This year's event will feature headliners Blink-182 and Weezer along with Franz Ferdinand, Girl Talk, Jet, Mates of State, Public Enemy, Taking Back Sunday, The Bravery, The Hold Steady, The National, St. Vincent and Wale. A dance tent will host performances by Danny Howells, Holy F*CK, Lee Burridge & Pete Tong. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
