(Hypebot) The European Commission has begun an official probe of Spotify’s anti-trust complaint against Apple, according to a new report. The complaint centers on the 30% that Apple charges for in-app purchase and policies that Spotify CEO Daniel Ek says,”deliberately disadvantage other app developers.”
“In recent years, Apple has introduced rules to the App Store that purposely limit choice and stifle innovation at the expense of the user experience – essentially acting as both a player and referee to deliberately disadvantage other app developers,” said Spotify CEO Daniel Ek shortly after the filing.
The EU has now studied the complaint and surveyed customers, rivals and others in the industry, which prompted the formal investigation, according to the Financial Times. No deadline for the investigation has been set and it could reportedly take years
