LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Singer, songwriter, and recording artist Jazmine Sullivan’s “Heaux Tales” was named the “Album of the Year” at the 21st annual BET Awards.

In winning the accolade, Sullivan fended off other nominees that included The Weeknd, Nas, Megan Thee Stallion, Chloe x Halle, and DaBaby.

Megan Thee Stallion, who was tied for the most nominations with fellow rapper DaBaby, had a big night, winning the awards for “Best Female Hip Hop Artist,” “Best Collaboration,” “Viewer’s Choice” and “Video of the Year.”

Actress and rapper Queen Latifah was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her numerous contributions to music and culture over the course of her storied career.

“I want to thank BET for creating an outlet for beautiful Blackness to thrive, to shine,” she said while accepting her award. “When we couldn’t get played on the radio in other places, we couldn’t get our videos played in other places, there was BET that allowed us to be in our fullness.”

As well, in a Pride moment, Queen Latifah used the moment to express her love and appreciation of her longtime partner, Eboni Nichols. While her sexuality has been an open secret for some time, this was the first time that she publicly discussed her orientation.

The late rapper DMX, who suffered a heart attack in April, was also honored during the awards gala with Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swizz Beatz and Michael K. Williams collaborating for a special tribute.

Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, the 21st Annual BET Awards took place with a full audience at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Performances for this year’s awards ceremony included Andra Day, the City Girls, DJ Khaled, Jazmine Sullivan, Lil Nas X, Kirk Franklin and Migos, among others.
