LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Pop newcomer Olivia Rodrigo led nominations on Thursday for the 2021 American Music Awards, where she will compete for the top prize against Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, BTS, The Weeknd, and Drake.

Rodrigo, 18, who burst onto the charts in January, got seven nods including artist of the year, new artist of the year, and favorite pop song for her debut single, “Drivers License.”

Five-time AMA winner The Weeknd was hot on her heels with six nominations, including artist of the year, favorite music video, and favorite pop song.

Bad Bunny, Doja Cat and GIVĒON each picked up five nods. Bad Bunny ruled in the Latin categories, including two nominations for favorite Latin album, while Doja Cat, who won best knew artist at the AMAs last year, picked up nominations for favorite female R&B artist and favorite R&B album

New categories for 2021 include favorite trending song, drawing nominees from TikTok on the year’s most viral songs, Favorite gospel artist, and favorite Latin duo or group, which rounds out last year’s expansion of the Latin categories bringing the total to five in the genre.

The 2021 AMAs will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 8:00 p.m. EST/PST and will be broadcast on ABC. If you miss it, or have cut your cord, you can watch the event streamed via Hulu the following day.
