NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — After just two weeks, Michelle Williams has pulled out of a role on the Broadway production Once On This Island, citing health issues.
Williams, formerly a member of the R&B group Destiny’s Child, had been cast as the goddess Erzulie, stepping into the role previously held by Lea Solange.
However, this week, a statement from the production to People Magazine said that Williams had been advised by her doctors to take a “leave of absence” from performing.
While the statement did not provide specifics about Williams’ health, she revealed earlier this year that she was battling depression and had spent several days in a mental health facility.
As well, her relationship with pastor and professional sports chaplain Chad Johnson came to an end this month. The two had just debuted in November in a new a reality television show called Chad Loves Michelle, which focused on the couple’s relationship.
According to Playbill, Williams’ understudy Cassondra James will take over until December 26, with Lea Solange returning to fill the role until the final show on January 6th, 2019.
