(CelebrityAccess) — Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eddie Money revealed that he’s battling stage 4 esophageal cancer.

Money, whose real name is Edward Mahoney revealed the diagnosis in a preview clip from an upcoming episode of his AXS TV reality series “Real Money” which is slated for release in September, the Associated Press reported.

In the clip, Money says the cancer was discovered during what he thought was a routine checkup. Money said the disease had spread to his liver and lymph nodes.

Money first made a name for himself as a recording artist in the 1970s with hits such as “Baby Hold On,” and “Two Tickets to Paradise,” and in the 1980s with “Take Me Home Tonight,” and “I Wanna Go Back.” But he also battled with drug addiction until he joined a 12-step program in 2001.

In July, Money announced that he was canceling all upcoming tour dates and postponing the release of his latest album while undergoing a heart valve replacement and suffered a bout of pneumonia following the procedure.
