Detroit Symphony Cancels Concert, Citing Strike

WARREN, MI (AP) — The Detroit Symphony Orchestra says it has cancelled a suburban concert because of a continuing musicians' strike.

The symphony says the group called the Players was scheduled to put on the "Bowfire" concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Warren.

The symphony says the Players members cancelled the event because of the strike.

Musicians have been on the picket line since Oct. 4. Management of the financially struggling orchestra implemented a 33 percent base pay cut in the first year of the new contract.

Musicians had offered a 22 percent reduction.

On Thursday, the symphony said it finished the 2010 fiscal year with an $8.8 million deficit.
