MTV 's 4th Annual Video Music Awards Latin America Moves To Mexico

(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Mexico will host the “MTV Video Music Awards Latin America 2005” (VMALA) live from Playa del Carmen on October 20, marking the first time the show will travel to a new destination since its premier in 2002. It has been held in Miami for its first three years.

The fourth annual MTV VMALA will be at Xcaret Park located in the Mexico Caribbean, one of the country’s most popular destinations. The VMALA ‘05 will air on MTV Latin America to more than 23 countries. In addition, it will be seen on various broadcast stations throughout Latin America; it will air on MTV and MTV2 in the US, reaching 80 million households; and it will have the potential to reach more than 418 million households in 164 territories across MTV’s channels worldwide.

“Since launching the VMALA in 2002, we’ve always wanted to bring our flagship event into the region,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, managing director, MTV Networks Latin America. “Mexico is one of our most important markets, and we’re confident that it will be a wonderful host and a true representative of all that Latin America has to offer.”

Shakira, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and Foo Fighters are the first round of talent confirmed to perform.
