NFL Teams Experiment With Location-Based Social Networking

WASHINGTON D.C. (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The Washington Redskins have hopped on the social networking bandwagon through a partnership with location-based social networking website Foursquare.

The partnership will allow 'Skins fans to check in on Foursquare from the team's home at FedEx Field or at various, designated bars and restaurants in the D.C. metroplex. Three of these checkins will allow participants to unlock the Redskins Foursquare badge, which enters them for a contest to win 2 loge tickets, pre-game field passes and entry to a tailgate party with the Geico caveman.

Some of the participating D.C. locations include Buffalo Wild Wings and Green Turtle outlets around the city.

This year marks the first forays into interactive location-based social networking by a number of teams. Similar efforts are underway between the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots with another such site called Scvngr. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
