NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Ric Ocasek, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer best known as the frontman of the iconic New Wave group The Cars, died from heart disease, according to New York’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

In a statement released after Ocasek’s passing, the Medical Examiner’s office said that he died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and that pulmonary emphysema was also a contributing factor.

Ocasek, who was 75 when he died, was found dead by his estranged wife Paulina Porizkova in his Manhattan home on Sunday afternoon.

Porizkova later said that Ocasek was recovering from surgery but did not elaborate on what he had been treated for.
