Prolific UK Scalper Sentenced

LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — A prolific ticket scalper who sold over £400,000 of fake concert tickets in a little more than a year, has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in jail.

According to the IQ Magazine, Fifty-three-year-old John Lupton, of Upper Norwood, was found guilty on two counts of fraudulent trading and one count of money laundering. As well, he has been banned from acting as a company director until 2026.

Lupton was alleged to have sold £636,000 worth of tickets through two companies Lines Direct Ltd and Williams & Hill Ltd between May 2009 and June 2010, but failed to actually deliver on £435,000 worth of tickets. When buyers attempted to request a refund for the missing tickets, they found the companies had been closed and their assets drained.

According to the Evening Standard, prosecutor Allison Clare said that there was no prospect of recovering those tickets as Mr. Lupton appeared to have no assets when he was arrested in 2011. – Staff Writers
