'This Is Us' Tops 24th Annual SAG Awards

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — The cast of the breakout NBC drama "This Is Us" had a big night at the SAG Awards on Sunday night, earning the first major network win for ensemble in a drama series since ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" won the award in 2006, more than a decade ago.

"[To] the people that watch with us every Tuesday night and embrace a show that reflects positivity and hope and inclusion, we love you," Milo Ventimiglia, one of the show's ensemble, told the audience while accepting the award.

"This Is Us" beat out stiff competition in the category, edging rivals (all from streaming and premium cable) including "The Crown," "Game of Thrones," "Stranger Things," and "The Handmaid's Tale."

As well, "This is Us" helped one of the show's leading actors, Stirling K. Brown win the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series, making him the first black actor to win this recognition since the Screen Actors Guild began the awards show in 1995.

Gary Oldman picked up the award for outsanding performance by a male actor in a drama film, for his portrayal of English Prime Minister Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour." Frances McDormand took the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role for her work in "Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri."

Academy-award winning actor Morgan Freeman was presented with the Screen Actors Guild's lifetime achivement award.

The 24th annual SAG Awards were broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, with actor Kristen Bell hosting the festitivities.
