CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — Rising rap star Juice WRLD died on Sunday after suffering a medical emergency at Chicago’s Midway Airport. He was 21.
According to the Chicago Tribune, paramedics were called to a private jet hangar at the airport to assist the rapper, whose real name is Jarad Higgins, after he suffered an apparent seizure.
Higgins was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Cook County medical examiner’s office told the Tribune.
A spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department told the Tribune that it was unclear what caused the seizure and said that an autopsy would be conducted.
“There were no signs of foul play and all individuals aboard the aircraft are cooperating with CPD and have given all of their information. We are awaiting the Cook County medical examiner on the cause and manner of death,” a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department told the Tribune.
A native of Chicago, Juice WRLD scored his first major hit in 2017 with “Lucid Dreams” off of his self-released EP 9 9 9.
He followed it up with his EP Nothings Different, which included the single “All Girls Are the Same” the video of which helped him to land a deal with Interscope in early 2018 for a reported $3 million.
At the time of his death, he had been announced as a headliner at the Rolling Loud Los Angeles festival on December 15th; the Snowta Fest in Minneapolis on December 31st; and Hangout 2020 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
