Atlanta Considers Sponsoring Urban Music Fest

ATLANTA, Georgia (CelebrityAccess) — Atlanta's City Council on Monday voted on a resolution calling on the city to consider sponsoring an urban music festival.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the City Council's resolution calles on the city to empanel a 13-member Atlanta Music Festival Committee to undertake a feasibility study to see if an Atlanta event could “be a driver of economic development to local businesses, increase tourism, and promote a sense of civic pride.”

If enacted, the committee would consist of one member appointed by the mayor, one by the Council president, three by Council members, and the rest drawn from stakeholders in municipal and state organizations such as Georgia Convention and Visitors Bureau and Governor’s Office of Film and Entertainment to the city’s Commissioner of Parks & Recreation and Office of Cultural Affairs, the AJC said.

The City Council cited other events such as Milwaukee’s Summerfest, Taste of Chicago and the Austin Urban Music Festival as inspirations for the Atlanta-based event. – Staff Writers
