GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Fugitive promoter Ben Shawa, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for probation violation in Florida, was arrested by Michigan police on Wednesday.
According to local NBC affiliate WOOD, Shawa was arrested at a rest stop in Lansing by a Michigan State Police trooper at 4:30am. Though Shawa reportedly provided the officer with a false name, his true identity was discovered during a routine investigation.
Shawa was on probation following a 2004 incident where he was sentenced for taking $100,000 from investors for a music festival that he failed to deliver on. Shawa allegedly violated the terms of his probation when he stopped making restitution payments to Florida.
Shawa had staged some music events, including CountryPalooza, which reportedly went off without a hitch and even saw Shawa donating some of the proceeds to help keep Grand Rapids public swimming pools open.
Shawa is currently residing in Ingham County Jail while awaiting extradition to Florida. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
