Legendary Guitarist, Denis 'Piggy' D'Amour, Dies From Colon Cancer

MONTREAL (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — The lead guitarist for legendary Canadian metal band Voivod died suddenly in a Montreal hospital due to complications from colon cancer. He was 45 years-old.

Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, died late Friday night after slipping into a coma Thursday. Doctors found the cancer during a routine operation in June. Complications arose when it was discovered the cancer had spread and was inoperable.

D'Amour had been working as recently as mid-July on Voivod's 14th studio album, where he recorded nearly two dozen demo tracks before the cancer diagnosis.

The band halted production as former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, who joined Voivod four years ago, was treated for tendonitis.

D'Amour said he was influenced by many guitarists, including Alex Lifeson of Rush, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, and Adrian Belew of King Crimson.
