San Jose, Santa Clara Venue Feud Heats Up

SAN JOSE, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman ruled last week that San Jose’s lawsuit against Santa Clara County improperly interfered with the county’s ability to secure bond financing for a concert hall.

The lawsuit stemmed from the ongoing battle between the city and the county as to who will build a new venue and where it will be located. San Jose, along with their NHL team the San Jose Sharks, would like to put the building downtown, while the county is hoping to build the concert hall on the fairgrounds outside the city.

The county argued in court that the lawsuit was designed solely to stop public debate over the new building. Santa Clara County Supervisor Blanca Alvarado told the Mercury News, “We have maintained all along that the lawsuits are totally lacking in merit and were simply intended to block the project.”

The paper also reported that at the next court date, set for November 18th, the county will ask for the case to be dismissed as well as attempt to recover the cost of the court battle, while the city will ask that the ruling be reconsidered or file an appeal. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
